Output of pwd command

The output of the (Cygwin) pwd command is in UNIX format with /cygdrive
prepended to it.
For example, I am in H: drive pwd gives me /cygdrive/h as my present working
directory.

I would like to know the rationale for prepending /cygdrive to the directory
and if there is an option to suppress it. (In my environment I work with
other (NT) tools that don't understand /cygdrive.)

I would also like to know if there is an option to output directories in a
more NT like format e.g. H:/ or H:\ in the example above.

Thanks,
Edward
